With several family members who have lived with diabetes, focusing on endocrinology has always been of interest to Dr Rene. “Many people think that endocrinology just addresses diabetes, but it’s a lot more. There are so many hormones in the body that have an impact on your mood, weight, and other important functions” said Dr Rene.

Dr Rene received her medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1995. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, followed by her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr Rene is certified in endocrinology, diabetes & metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Dr Rene is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, the Atlanta Women’s Medical Alliance, and the National Medical Association.

In 2017, Dr Rene was named “Top Doctors of America” in the field of endocrinology.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists, like Dr Rene, have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus and thyroid disorders – among others. Dr Rene is available to assist patients with existing endocrine issues, in addition to working with those whose treatments may increase the risk of developing endocrine conditions, such as diabetes.

Dr Rene is a regional speaker regarding topics such as pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, thyroid disease, and diabetes management. She has also organized and participated in several community-based health fairs.

A lover of music, Dr Rene is active in her church choir. In her spare time, she enjoys the arts and outdoor activities.
