Doris is responsible for the delivery of care for individuals who have experienced homelessness, severe addiction, mental illness, trauma, family/cultural and community disconnection. Also in settings with individuals that has entanglements with the justice system and forensic psychiatry as well as physical health deterioration, behavioral issues and challenges. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, she shares information with health delivery team and other professionals in relation to the client’s progress, care plans, helpful interventions and approaches. All these are designed to meet the needs of the client. Through continuity of care, majority of Coast Mental Health  Recovery and Rehabilitation program clients are referred from Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction. This is a 94-bed facility that provides integrated treatment for adults with the most severe and complex concurrent disorders in British Columbia. It is the only program of its kind in the province.

Additionally, Doris practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the former professional governing boards of College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia and the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia which is now together as the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals. The  focus is client-centered, trauma-informed, recovery-focused care model which forms the vision and values of the organization.

During her academic career, Doris earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from Douglas College in Coquitlam British Columbia, Canada in March of 2016. She then went on to become a member of the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.

Believing that mental illness finds a way of touching all of us, either directly or through our friends and family, Doris chose this career path because it gives her comfort knowing that she is one of the many professionals in the world dedicating their time, overcoming the challenges, and advocating for the individual with mental illness.
