Delivering Value-Based Medicine and Mentorship to Enhance Health Outcomes in Underserved Communities
(YourDigitalWall Editorial):- Alton, Illinois Apr 7, 2026 (Issuewire.com) – Laurie Peercy, MSN, RN, DNP, AGNP-BC, is a dedicated Primary Care Nurse Practitioner serving older adults across the Greater Chicagoland Area. Originally from Boston, Laurie relocated to Chicago to pursue her passion for nursing, earning both her Master’s (MSN) and Doctorate (DNP) degrees from Rush University. She was a nurse on a transplant surgical floor, where she honed critical skills while providing compassionate support to patients and their families during vulnerable times. Laurie also gained international experience as a surgical assistant in rural underserved communities, further shaping her commitment to patient-centered care.
Her doctoral work focused on improving transitional care for older adults through a series of comprehensive psychosocial assessments that addressed social determinants of health (SDOH) barriers. She went on to practice as a nurse practitioner for an internal medicine group caring for patients in the transitional care setting. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked in telemedicine at Rush University Medical Center, addressing and triaging acute primary care needs.
She joined Oakstreet Health in 2020, where she provides quality, value-based care to older adults in the Chicagoland area. In 2023, Laurie expanded her impact by accepting a faculty position in the organization’s national NP fellowship program. She provides education, preceptorship, and mentorship to new graduate nurse practitioners, guiding them through the transition to practice. “It is incredibly fulfilling to witness the ripple effect of value-based medicine–not just improving individual outcomes, but strengthening the health of entire communities,” Laurie reflects.
Beyond direct patient care, Laurie is deeply committed to advancing healthcare through professional mentorship and the promotion of evidence-based, compassionate practice. Her work is characterized by a dedication to collaboration, innovation, and fostering excellence in nursing, ensuring both her patients and colleagues thrive.
Laurie Peercy continues to be a driving force in primary care, combining clinical expertise, empathy, and leadership to transform healthcare delivery and mentor the next generation of nurse practitioners.
