She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville University in 2018.
Inspired by personal experiences–including her mother’s battle with cancer and her own recovery from a serious motor vehicle accident–Dr. Burnett pursued a career that blends science, compassion, and service to others. She began her healthcare career in emergency medical services and as a medical assistant before transitioning into registered nursing roles in emergency departments at UF Health Jacksonville. There, she provided care to both adult and pediatric populations, developing the clinical instincts and adaptability that would later define her career in emergency and critical care.
To further advance her expertise, Dr. Burnett earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Emory University, completing advanced training as both a family and emergency nurse practitioner. She later obtained a post-certificate in acute care from Jacksonville University, allowing her to transition into intensive care medicine. In the ICU, she has managed some of the most complex cases in modern medicine, including patients requiring lung transplantation and advanced mechanical circulatory and respiratory support.
Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Burnett remains deeply committed to professional service and education. She volunteers with the Jacksonville Emergency Medical Auxiliary and serves as an Adjunct Professor at Jacksonville University, where she mentors nursing students and shares her expertise with future healthcare professionals.
