A fair idea was provided by Ajinkya Rahane related to hi indifferent form that would pop up. He met the challenging delivery head-on and the type of aggression was never seen before.

After India was beaten by England in the first test by a margin of 227 runs, Rahane was vehemently defended by skipper Virat Kohli as he has not scored a lot of runs both before and after the famous win in the Melbourne test where a century by the batsman enabled the Indian side to square the series level at 1-1.

The questions on his form again came up just before the second test in England and Rahane was pretty much ready to tackle this situation head-on.

Rahane answered in the third person and said that he is playing at home after a couple of years and he last played in the home series in South Africa. If one takes out the scores from the series one is going to find something there. He spoke with a deadpan expression that referred to the brilliant scores of 59 and 115 he got against the South Africans in that series in 2019.

He also said that it is all about the entire team and it is not about individuals and he is only focused on contributing to the team. So he has urged everyone to go through his scores in the last 10 to 15 test matches.

The vice-captain of the Indian team also said that he is not supposed to think about what has been happening on the outside. He has scored almost 1000 runs in the last 15 test matches.

He is a different Rahane altogether, and he is not at all ready to take the backward step as he faced some of the most difficult questions.

When a journalist asked him about negative body language and dropping shoulders in the first test was due to the change in the captaincy, he was not at all amused.

There have been moments when one does not have the energy but it does not mean it has happened because of the change in leadership. He also said that Virat is the captain and will remain as the captain.

He added that the scribes are always trying to find out some masala (controversy) by digging in and he said that they are not going to get anything from him. The wicket in the first two days was such that the body language was a bit down and it can be because of that.

It was quite a pretty similar answer that has been given by Kohli when he was asked about the form of Rahane and also the captaincy factor.

He said the same thing about the change in approach by Pujara after he has batted defensively against the Australians and he was praised by the pundits.

Rahane whacked every question like a delivery deep into the stands.
