Authors and poets have always made sure to use their words against violence and Israeli poet Yael S. Hacohen is one of them. She has recently published a poetry collection named ‘The Dove That Didn’t Return’ which portrays the naked truth of war and the soldiers who participate with their life on edge. Other than her remarkable creativity and intellect as a poet, Hacohen is also a female commander in the Israeli Defense Forces which helps her to offer the original perspective and first-hand experience for her time in service. In the book, she has masterfully re-written biblical stories and fragments from the perspective of a woman, who is also a warrior. Yael S. Hacohen has completed her Ph.D. at UC Berkeley who has previously done an MFA in Poetry from New York University. She has nurtured is poetry skills for a long time and participated in multiple workshops and acclaimed literary review events which helped her become even a great poet, revered for being visionary. It was quite a long journey and she is very proud of the fact just like her readers. Previously, she published a chapbook in 2021, named ‘Between Sanctity and Sand’.
