(YourDigitalWall Editorial):- Tel Aviv-Yafo, Mediterranean coast Mar 19, 2024 (Issuewire.com) – War is a tough subject but art has a way of remembering it. Israeli author Yael S. Hacohen brings us a fresh new perspective with her recently released book The Dove That Didn’t Return‘. For years, war poetry was written from men and their perspective where nobody knew what a woman, who is actively present in the army, actually goes through. This new book shines a light on women of war and their experiences which is a transformative journey for the readers. Apart from being a poet and a Ph.D. holder, the author was also a female commander in the Israeli Defense Forces who creates an original storyline with experiences from the war-torn Middle East.

‘The Dove That Didn’t Return’ comprises war poetry that was previously all written from the male perspective, belonging to a territory of male-penned poem bodies. But women go through as much as men when a war happens. And when the war continues for so long just like it is going in the Middle East, the world needs a female voice. Hacohen shines a light on that, bringing the painful and real hand experiences of serving and living with the consequences of war as a woman. The book contains poem pieces containing biblical stories, verses, and fragments that are rewritten through the eyes of a woman. The contemporary poetics are on the divulgence of war from an Israeli woman’s perspective that has never been told before.

The author started writing the book when she was serving as a commander in the Israeli Defense Forces and she continued throughout her reserve duty. She has experienced war in all stages of her life, even in motherhood which she brings in this book. After completing her Ph.D. at UC Berkeley, she has now published the book in the hope of bringing out her message of peace story. The book is now available on Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
