“Bejamalen” draws on the Sufi poetic tradition that celebrates Divine love, spiritual witnessing (shuhud), and divine knowledge (ma’rifah). The poem is distinguished as a contemporary Sufi poem written in a poetic language with its own internal rhythm and symbolic imagery; in its final verses, the poem builds toward a deeply meaningful poem of praise for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Afaq’s choice of this form of Sufi poetry extends its broader artistic vision of highlighting the elegance and beauty of Arabic music and opening new doors to discovering its depth and expressive power by presenting texts that carry intellectual and spiritual depth equal to their musical beauty.
To bring this poem into a contemporary musical form, Afaq once again collaborated with Maestro George Kolta and Syncope Orchestra, whose orchestral arrangement preserves the spirit of the poem, while singer Ziad Kamal delivers the vocals, with a voice that blends Arabic music education with a soulful talent for performing authentic Tarab.
