While there are many new films, the directors have decided to bring back the old memories with new renditions of familiar franchises like The First Omen, Beetlejuice 2, etc to name some.   1. Night Swim

This is the first major horror release in 2024 which creates a horrific feeling from the depth of the waters which seems quite intriguing and captivating at the same time. The movie is based on an acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire which did a great job in churning out the main story-line. Wyatt Russell is starring as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player. However, he suffers from a degenerative illness which puts him through an early retirement and he moves into a new place with his wife and daughter Izzy and young boy Elliot. The whole sense of horror revolves around the pool in the backyard where a malevolent power exists.

  1. Destroy All Neighbors

Well, when horror meets comedy some great like this movie happens. This film revolves around the main character William Brown who is a self-absorbed musician, highly determined to finish his prog-rock magnum opus. However, he faces a lot of obstacles on his journey and one of the main issues is his neighbor Vlad who is noisy and grotesque. In order to shut him up, William finally decapitates him and the cycle of killing starts. The victims turn into undead corpses and make every attempt to stop William. With a twisted story and practical FX, this film definitely garnered much attention.

  1. True Detective: Night Country

This is not a movie but can definitely quench the thirst for horror. There is a reason why the fans are buzzing over the fourth season of this famous series as the writer and director Issa López creates a different world with a horror story and swiftly fits within detective cases. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis have done a great job with their natural acting skills. They played the roles of local law enforcement officials who were in search of evidence to solve a mystery. But unlike thrillers, there is dark energy represented on white snow. This season is an absolute treat for the horror-lovers.

  1. Dario Argento Panico

When a legendary director gets tribute, something amazing like ‘Dario Argento Panico’ happens. And the best part is that Argento is starring in the movie himself. The synopsis of the movie reads, “he finds himself in a hotel room to return to the very setting that ignited his creative fervor to conclude his latest script and participate in an intimate interview, all while being followed by a film crew documenting his life for a movie about his illustrious career.”

This film also sparked much anticipation with its unique trailer. ‘Night Swim’s director Bryce McGuire has also co-written the story where a young woman owns a run-down pub and then comes across a dark and grim secret that lives in the basement. After the death of his father, Iris, the young woman found out that she inherited a centuries-old run-down pub. There is a creature called Baghead that can shape-shift and is capable of turning into dead. Iris utilizes the ability for money and finds out the horrific consequences.

This horror-comedy develops in a neon setting and creates a ‘80s vibe. Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse are starring in the movie as the lead roles. The story is based on a little teenage necromancy where a teenage girl develops a crush on a handsome corpse. This raging lover story combines a lot of horrific circumstances where they embark on a murderous journey to find love. So, it is not just a horror-comedy but also consists of a fair amount of romance.

  1. Out Of Darkness

The story line for this film takes place in an ancient setting which is around 45,000 years ago. A group of six people reach a raw and desolate landscape in a small boat and the journey of survival begins. Starved and desperate, these strikes pout across the tundra wastes and the distant mountains in order to find food and shelter. While the day seems to be okay, everything becomes gruelling at night time and the group realizes that they are not alone in this place. Everybody likes stop-motion animations which are creative, smooth, and make the viewers happy. However, it can get pretty scary sometimes which is well elaborated in the film. The story develops around the main character Ella, a stop-motion animator who is greatly indulged in her last project. However, this project is making her lose her sanity and push towards darkness. The official synopsis for the movie reads “In the near future, war and corruption have plagued America and turned it into a theocratic police state. Against the oppression, ordinary citizens have formed a group called The Resistance.” Alegre Dyer, a member of the group manages to break out of the group and reunite with her husband and daughter. The family takes cover in a house to stay safe from the militia and something more sinister is already lurking in the house. Find out what happens next.

Teddy bears are cute but they can be pretty scary sometimes. So, make sure not to watch this movie with your kids. The central character Jessica moves back to her childhood home with her family. In that house, her youngest stepdaughter Alice finds an eerie stuffed teddy bear and grows quite fond of it. It is named Chauncey with whom Alice likes to play different types of games. Jessica her mother intervenes and quickly finds out that it is more than just a teddy. The film has created much anticipation among horror movie lovers.

  1. Late Night With The Devil

Exorcism, reality show, or Halloween? Perhaps everything together! This film is increasingly gaining more attention for its unique concept as a horror movie. Filmmakers Cameron and Colin Cairnes did a great job in making this project and also in casting David Dastmalchian, who played the central character. The film has a ‘70s setting as it depicts a talk show from the 1970s which is hosted by Jack Delroy, played by David. In order to increase the ratings for the show, Jack brings a young girl into the show as a guest who was allegedly possessed. As the camera starts rolling, that show offers some of the most bizarre incidents.

  1. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

There are numerous fans of the Ghostbusters franchise and every one of them is currently looking forward to the upcoming film ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ which will be released soon on March 22. This time, the cast goes crazy with Bill Murray, Paul Rudd, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily Alyn Lind, Finn Wolfhard, and the list goes on. The story revolves around the Spengler family who return to the place where it all started, the iconic New York City. They team up with the original Ghostbusters and fight together to stop the evil force with has frozen everything; creating a second Ice Age.

While this movie was scheduled to be released in April, Neon picked it up and decided to release it on March 22nd. The film is produced by Sydney Sweeney who has also starred in the movie as the central character Cecilia, a woman who has devoted her faith. She warmly welcomes the picture-perfect Italian countryside where she finds a new job at the illustrious convent. However, soon she discovers the dark energy that is harbored at the place where she lives.

The official synopsis of the movie reads An isolated man living at the back of a desolate caravan park is visited by a desperate young woman seeking shelter from a violent storm. As the savage storm worsens, these solitary souls begin to feel threatened – but who should really be afraid?” Quite compelling and creating a psychological essence, this movie is creating huge anticipation with a release date of March 22nd.

  1. The First Omen

Religion and horror are intertwined and this movie is the greatest example of that. In the story, a young American woman is sent to begin a life of service to the church in Rome. However, she soon finds out the dark energy in God’s House and the darkness makes her question her own faith. She encounters a terrifying conspiracy that revolves around the incarnation of evil. Directed by Arkasha Stevenson, this film is all set to drop on April 5th.

The central story of this horror film revolves around a child vampire ballerina. The official synopsis for the movie reads, “After a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure, all they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. In an isolated mansion, the captors start to dwindle, one by one, and they discover, to their mounting horror, that they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.” Every horror film enthusiast is looking forward to this film which is scheduled to be released on April 19.

  1. Return to Silent Hill

The Silent Hills is returning with more blood and horror this year. Director Christopher Gans has also assured that this movie is going to bring back the exact taste of the previous movie but with a twist. The story develops around the main character James who is terribly heartbroken after separating from his true love. Later on, he receives letters inviting him to Silent Hills to search for his lost love. James plunges deeper into the darkness of the town and witnesses many mysterious actors that make him question his sanity and then he struggles to come back to reality. But, does he succeed?   1. Infested

Monster horrors and trapped horrors are some of the favorite genres of horror that most people like, and when these two blends, movies like ‘Infested’ happen. It is a French movie that focuses on the invasion of venomous spiders that forces the residents to go out of a suburban building to save themselves. This creepy-crawly flick is releasing on April 26. So, if you want to get trapped in a building with spiders, hit the theatres in April.

  1. Cuckoo

This film has been building much anticipation since the news of the making came out two tears back. Finally, movie lovers can enjoy this film on big screens as the film is releasing on May 3rd. The story is written by German filmmaker Tilman Singer who has also directed it. The synopsis says, “On a trip to the German Alps with her father and stepmother, Gretchen discovers that the resort town where they’re staying hides sinister secrets, as she’s plagued by strange noises and frightening visions of a woman pursuing her.”

  1. Tarot

This movie was formerly titled Horoscope but now it is known as Tarot which is releasing on May 10th. In the story, a group of friends recklessly breaks the sacred rule of Tarot readings, which is to never use another person’s deck. The broken rules lead to more terrifying consequences and the evil trapped in the cursed cards is unleashed.
