The most ambiguous universe in cinematic history, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is the name to be hailed, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t made any mistakes so far.
One of the most successful franchise project holders in the history of cinema is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although the genre of superheroes had struggled to keep up the consistency over the years, while holding hands with the producer and president Kevin Feige it has been able to create some of the most exciting series of crossover events. The concept of ‘Superhero Fatigue’ has been going on for quite a while now and the MCU has not been spared from the rumors regarding this concept. Over the years, fans have been criticizing the lack of logic in some of the films created by this studio and it has become quite undeniable to this point. Here are some mistakes that have been pointed out by fans regarding the several projects of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
Drax Gets Attention from Ronan the Accuser
The viewers were introduced to a completely different set of actors and actresses when the Guardians of the Galaxy came around. But at first glance, Drax became a fan favorite due to the relatability of his character. In the movie, Drax is seen to be seeking revenge from Ronan The Accuser for the destruction of his entire family.
With that being said, Drax makes a huge mistake, overwhelmed by anger for the death of his family by calling attention to himself from Ronan. Due to this blunder, the guardians are divided into two groups with Peter Qill played by Chris Pratt, and Gamora played by Zoe Saldana recognizing the emotionally weak Drax of becoming a threat. They both agreed that Drax could not be trusted when put in a compromising situation that reminded him of his lost family.
Ultron as the Creation of Tony Stark
As the end of the Avengers film gave clear indications of Thanos becoming the ultimate enemy of the entire phase, Avengers: Age of Ultron seemed to be an old movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character of Ultron played by James Spader was necessary for the plot which implied that Tony Stark has created a supervillain out of his sacredness for Thanos.
Considering the havoc caused by Ultron which included the chaos created on Sokovia and claiming the life of Avengers’ new ally, Pietro Maximoff played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It can be considered as the biggest mistake made by Tony Stark although it did help him to become careful and calculative about the consequences in the subsequent entries in the series.
The Black Widow Signs the Sokovian Accords
The serious conflict between the ideologies of the members of the Avengers was first seen in the movie Captain America: Civil War. Where the great American superhero Captain America also known as Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans believed that the world was safe in their own hands, Tony Stark had a different idea. He thought that the superhero activities should be under the governmental authority, and he signed the Sokovian Accords.
At first, the spy Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johansson seemed to agree with Tony’s ideology but later she realized that the world is nowhere near safe in the hands of the Sokovian accors so she decided to switch teams at the very last moment. When R’Challa played by Chadwick Boseman was about to pursue Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes played by Sebastian Stan, the black widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff ends up paralyzing him before he could launch his own mission. This course of events led to a huge fallout between Tony Stark and Natasha where he accused her of being a traitor.
Peter Quill Fails to Kill Thanos
Finally, all the characters from Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy are seen together on the screen in Avengers: Infinity War. As they join hands to unleash the ultimate battle against the iconoclast supervillain Thanos. Although Gamora had the power over her abusive father due to their connection, Thanos ended up sacrificing her to get the last Infinity Stone. Peter Quill had the opportunity to finish off Thanos but was unable to do so as he was very much heartbroken from losing the only person he loved so dearly.
The decision of not turning into a cold-blooded killer by Quill can be considered as a huge blunder because due to this Thanos gets off the hook and lays out his evil plan which eventually becomes the plot of the Avengers: Infinity War. Although the situation that Peter was going through at that time can be considered normal but if he had not taken this decision then maybe Tony Stark would not have died.
Thor Slipped at the Chance of Killing Thanos
Just like Peter Quill, The God of Thunder also had a chance of killing the arch-enemy of the entire Universe, Thanos in Wakanda. But he fails to do so as he did not aim for the head as guessed by the fans. When Thor played by Chris Hemsworth arrived in Waklanda with Rocket Racoon, voiced by Bradly Cooper, and Groot, which is voiced by Vin Diesel, he fails to throw his hammer while aiming at the head of the super-villain which led to Thanos erasing half of the universe with just one snap of fingers by Thanos.
Even though this was a strange mistake done by Thor, this led to one of the most important and surprising turn-about of a character in Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The God of Thunder is shown depressed due to his previous mistakes and becomes a totally different person. But later in Thor: Love and Thunder, he redeems himself as the true hero of Asgard.
Clint Baton turns into The Ronin
After Thanos was successful in swiping half of the universe clean with one snap of his fingers, the Avengers: Endgame showed the dark and chaotic aftermath of the unfortunate event. This period turned the cinematic universe into a nightmare with the base of a post-apocalyptic plot. One of the most calm and level-headed members of the Avengers, Clint Barton, played by Jeremy Renner turned into a ruthless killing machine seeking to avenge the death of his family, called The Ronin.
Although Clint tried to leave this alias of his in the past but the crimes committed by The Ronin kept on haunting Clint Barton. This reckoning with the past eventually becomes a crucial point of polt in the Disney+ spinoff series Hawkeye. The series revealed that Clint had hidden the truth about The Ronin from the people he cared about the most along with his family.
Peter Parker Looking Up to Quentin Beck
After Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker or Spiderman played by Tom Holland was the first adventure that he went on. But the loss of his mentor severely affected Peter and he made the mistake of trusting Quentin Beck played by Jake Gyllenhaal. This mistake is far more understandable to the audience as Peter is just a teenager who had lost his mentor and was in dire need to find some guidance. This overwhelming feeling clouded Spider-Man’s judgment and he ended up giving Quentin a dangerous technology.
The search for a mentor or guidance led Peter to believe that Quentin is a superhero from a different dimension who has arrived to help Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson to take down a supernatural entity. Later Quentin turns out to be a conning villain who was a former employee of the Stark Industries looking to claim the power for himself. The mistake made by Peter is quite understandable as his young age and distressed mental state were the main contributors to this decision.
Sam Wilson Denies to be Captain America
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is placed in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, also known as the great American Hero, Captain America is no more and his shield is passed on to Sam Wilson played by Anthony Mackie. But he refused to take the responsibility, afraid that he might be able to live up to the image of Captain America. For this, the government of the U.S. decided to make Agent Walker who is played by Wyatt Russell as the new Captain America.
Sam’s decision of not taking the shield creates grave consequences but this mistake is also understandable as his level of anxiety about feeling the shoes of Captain America as a black man is normal. After some serious turn of events, Sam Wilson finally gets rid of his fear and takes the responsibility of being the new Captain America which eventually becomes the plot for the new Marvel Cinematic Universe’s film Captain America: Brave New World which is supposed to be released in February of 2025.
Peter Tried to Turn Back Time
In Spider-Man: No Way Home, the teenage Spider-Man tried to erase people’s memories while Doctor Strange or Steven Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch is seen performing a critical spell. This movie is one of the biggest hits to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was very much successful in creating a timeline between the previous Spider-Man movies including the original trilogy Spider-Man by Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man duology. The mistake of trying to erase people’s memory and to turn back time committed by Peter is a horrible one as it unleashed villains, The Lizard played by Rhys Ifans, Electro played by Jamie Foxx, Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe, the Sandman who is played by Thomas Hayden Church and the good old Doctor Otto Octavian who is played by Alfred Molina back to the core timeline.
This mistake may be a huge one but is considered to be a rather understandable one as Spider-Man is just a teenager under huge pressure and if it was not him but some of his age, they would have done the same. At least, that is what the fans like to think.
